Whoo hoo – did I have fun learning the “kite” part of kite
surfing this afternoon. J J J A lot of
the folks here on Necker are from the UK, so my new word of the week which they
all use and I love it, is….BRILLIANT!
But you have to say it with a British accent to really feel the energy
of it. So when my new UK buds asked how was it today…my
response…absolutely BRILLIANT!
We were practicing with the small kites on land this
afternoon, while Richard took out to the waves in his big bejebbers kite (holy
it was big!). So interesting learning
how to understand and harness the power of the wind. I crashed a few times – but as always it was
when I was “overthinking” and not just being in the moment and letting the feel
of the kite guide the movements and responses – reminded me of what we should
be doing in life as well! A funny
moment – one of the girls almost flew a kite into Richard and we were laughing
that if you hit Richard with a kite, that might get you voted off the island! However, Richard is such a nice man, he
probably would laugh it off and praise you for your risk taking. He has a bit of a prankster in him as well. One of the girls that was sailing on his boat
yesterday told me the story that when they were approaching shore, he asked her
to come over and look at this with him – which she did and then he good
naturely pushed her into the water!
I forgot to take pictures today of the kites – I will
tomorrow and post them.
